Renovation

Specialized in historical renovations

We specialize in the historical renovation and restoration of buildings, gardens, roads and paths made of natural stone, often focusing on the restoration of sandstone façades. The restoration of stone buildings requires very specific expert knowledge. This includes traditional stone processing methods or faithful replicas as well as modern techniques or the use of artificial stone. We keep this knowledge alive by constantly implementing new renovation projects.

Stonemasonry

As stonemasons, we encounter the work of our predecessors during renovations. These projects are also interesting for us because they bring us together with specialists who share our appreciation of historic natural stone buildings. At Bärlocher, we benefit from teamwork in architecture, construction technology and monument preservation. The restoration of the historic Kesselismühle Bridge between Appenzell and Gonten was no everyday challenge. The extensive renovation work required careful preparation and kept us busy for months. More than 150 stones and the equivalent of over 50 tons of Rorschach sandstone were used in the complete renovation of the over 200-year-old stone arch bridge.
